A homicide investigation is underway into the death of a woman whose body was found in a Thousand Oaks hotel room after a man called authorities Monday night claiming he had killed his fiancée.
The man called around 10:45 p.m. reporting the death at the Palm Garden Hotel in the 400 block of North Ventu Park Road, a Ventura County Sheriff's Department spokesperson confirmed.
Arriving deputies located and detained the suspect who was wearing dark-colored clothing, black boots and a jacket.
Inside the hotel, deputies found a deceased woman in one of the rooms. No information regarding her identity has been released.
The suspect was seen being taken away on a gurney and placed into an ambulance.
Freelance media firm RMG News reported that the man had told dispatch that he was having suicidal thoughts after strangling his fiancée the previous day and then staying in the room with her body.
Authorities have not confirmed any details about how the woman was killed or the events surrounding her death.
Investigators did say that they believe the suspect acted alone and that there are no public safety issues.
The hotel was not evacuated but the investigation is ongoing, the spokesperson said.
