An 81-year-old woman run over by a truck driver after she tripped and fell into an Upper East Side street around the corner from her home has died, cops said Tuesday.
Walking with a cane, Akiko Omi was heading east on E. 59th St. when she stumbled near Second Ave. and fell into traffic about 10:10 a.m. Monday, cops said.
A moment later, she was struck by a passing box truck driver.
The truck driver never stopped and was last seen heading over the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, police said.
Medics rushed Omi to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell, where she died a few hours later.
Omi lived around the corner from where she was struck, police said.
Cops are still looking for the box truck driver. It was not immediately clear if the driver realized he struck the woman.
