Winter Park Express returns for another year, tickets start at $19

DENVER (KDVR) — Winter Park Express, which connects Denver's Union Station to the Winter Park Resort, will return for the 2025 winter season. According to a release by Gov. Polis' Office, prices will be 43% lower than in recent years.

The Winter Park Express utilizes Amtrak's California Zephyr train, which operates all year. However, during the winter season, the schedule shifts slightly on certain days, adding a stop at Winter Park Resort and leaving Denver earlier than it does otherwise.

The service will begin five days a week on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025. Special expanded holiday service will run from Dec. 20 to Dec. 22, and on Dec. 27 through Dec. 29.

The trains leave from Denver at 7 a.m., arriving at the resort around two hours later at 9 a.m. The return trip leaves Winter Park Resort at 4:30 p.m. and will arrive in Denver at around 6:40 p.m.

Tickets went on sale on Monday. People can purchase tickets on the Amtrack website.

One-way tickets for the train range from $19 to $39, and children aged 2 to 12 are eligible for 50% off base fares. Skis and snowboards can be carried on without any additional charge.

Colorado Department of Transportation Executive Director Shoshana Lew said the Winter Park Express offers people a great alternative to driving.

“At CDOT, we know that big ski days often mean tough drives in the mountains, and the Winter Park Express offers a great option to take a relaxing, affordable trip," she said.

Two more train cars have been added this year as well, which increases the number of seats from 268 to 402 for each trip.

Non-skiers will also be able to utilize the service with an added stop in the nearby city of Fraser.
