SAN FRANCISO (KRON) -- If you’ve taken a recent stroll in the Marina District to check out the seals lounging around at the San Francisco East Harbor Marina Dock, you’ll notice that it’s looking a lot emptier these days.
That’s because the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department is in the midst of a dock demolition project at the East Harbor (also known as Gashouse Cove.)
During the week of Oct. 21, the process began of removing “storm damaged and deteriorated docks” from the East Harbor to prevent future hazards from impending winter storms, said the department. Work is underway Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., and is expected to wrap up by Nov. 30.
Rec & Parks said the scope of work entails docks being fully removed from Gates 2, 4 and 6, as well as select docks on the eastern ends of Gates 8 and 10.
Boaters will still have access to docks in use, and areas of demolition will be marked off-limits. The fuel dock will be accessible during work hours, but boaters should be prepared for occasional interruptions.
The material from the dock removal will be discarded at an upland facility, said the Recreation & Parks Department
