Wellesley, Lukas Prock pass test against Weymouth

WELLESLEY – It was Lukas Prock’s night to shine.

The sophomore quarterback threw for four touchdowns and dashed for another to lead Wellesley to a 35-13 football victory over Bay State Conference foe Weymouth.

“We played really hard as a team,” Prock said. “Our preparation throughout the week was key in this one.”

The Raiders (6-2) will now head into the Division 2 state tournament with some positive momentum. Head coach Jesse Davis credited a strong week of practice to setting the tone.

“It really came down to how they practiced this week,” Davis said. “I think that our kids on the scout team did a really excellent job, our defensive coordinator Liam Sullivan put an awesome game plan together and the kids executed it.”

Wellesley started with possession but was quickly forced to punt. Weymouth would utilize a ground and pound offense to then charge down the field before a passing connection between Michael Farrow and Tyler Munchbach resulted in a touchdown.

The Raiders’ offense figured it out on the next possession, driving down the field and eventually capitalizing on a nine-yard pass from Prock to Matthew Leibman.

“It’s our guys up front and our quarterback, Lukas Prock, is a special talent,” Davis said. “He’s really getting the ball to guys in space. We’re spreading the ball to our athletes.”

The defense carried play through the rest of the first quarter and the early stages of the second before Weymouth capitalized via a Farrow run. Wellesley responded by getting into Weymouth territory, leading to a 35-yard bomb from Farrow that found Tennyson Charney in the end zone.

“We worked really hard in the offseason,” Prock said. “I feel like it really translates, whether it’s me to (Charney), me to Matthew Liebman or anyone else on the team. Hard work pays off.”

That would be the extent of the scoring in the opening half, with the game looking like a defensive battle. The Raiders’ offense had no intention of letting that happen.

Weymouth quickly was forced to punt and Wellesley quickly took advantage when Prock launched a deep pass to Matthew Yen that resulted in a 65-yard strike. The Raiders would then quickly force a fumble, and Prock ran it in from the two-yard line on the ensuing drive.

“No adjustments,” Davis said. “We needed to play four quarters of tough football today and our guys did that. This is a huge win for us moving into the playoffs next week.”

Weymouth looked to open up the offensive attack, but a wild pass fell into the arms of Leibman, securing a second straight turnover. Wellesley would find the end zone once again after this, with Prock connecting with Charney for the second time.

“Great chemistry, great work over the offseason,” Charney said of his connection with Prock. “We are keeping it going here.”

As the Raiders prepare for the postseason, they know that they will be a tough team to knock out.

“When we are playing at our best, which I felt like we played pretty close to tonight, we are a dangerous team,” Prock said.
