Washington County to host open house on County Road 74 improvement project
The project is still in the design phase, but is expected to start in summer of 2026.
Washington County will host an open house for the public to learn more about and comment on the County Road 74 improvement project from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Oltman Middle School, 6625 Goodview Ave. S., Cottage Grove.
The project stretches from County Road 74 (65th Street) from County Highway 38 (Hastings Avenue) to Geneva Avenue S. in Newport, and its aims include boosting the safety and operations of the area and improving stormwater drainage and erosion controls, according to a Washington County press release. Preliminary design of the project continues until winter of 2025 and construction is expected to begin in summer of 2026, according to the project’s website.
The county is also offering the option to view the open house materials on the project website from Jan. 8 to Jan. 22 for those unable to attend in person.
