Veterans Day: Service members celebrated with events, food deals around Southern California

Veterans Day is here, and on Monday, numerous special events, ceremonies, parades, and food deals are planned to celebrate retired and active service members.

Events

Free food and ride tickets to Pacific Park will be available to veterans and active duty members at the Santa Monica Pier beginning at 11 a.m. The event will feature speakers, performances and a flyover with Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters. The Pacific Wheel will also be lit up Monday evening with the American Flag.

In Long Beach, the Queen Mary will offer free admission between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for veterans and active duty service members. Special events and activities are being planned for the celebration.

Veterans will be honored at Pasadena City Hall between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Organizers have planned musical performances, exhibits and a flyover by the Condor Squadron at 11:11 a.m.

The 21st annual San Fernando Valley Veterans Day Parade will also start at 11:11 a.m. The parade route honoring America’s heroes' travels along Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Food deals for veterans and active duty service members

  • Denny's: Free Grand Slam breakfast between 5 a.m. and noon at participating locations
  • Applebee's: Free meal from its Veterans Day menu
  • Buffalo Wild Wings: 10 free boneless wings and fries at its GO locations
  • California Pizza Kitchen: Free entre and drink from a special Veterans Day menu at company-owned locations
  • Chili's: Free entre from its Veterans Day menu
  • Dunkin': One free doughnut in-store while supplies last

Government offices including banks, courts, libraries and post offices will be closed on Monday in honor of Veterans Day.
