Van bursts into flames inside Caldecott Tunnel, crews responding

(KRON) -- Emergency crews are responding to a vehicle fire inside the Caldecott Tunnel in the East Bay on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. A minivan caught fire inside Bore 1 in the eastbound direction of Highway 24 at around 9:54 a.m.
According to CHP’s incident report, the van reportedly collided with a vehicle that was in front of it before it burst into flames. A Tesla driver then picked up the driver from the minivan as the blaze engulfed the vehicle.
It is currently unknown if there are any injuries.
The vehicle fire is blocking the left lane inside the tunnel, CHP said. Crews with the Oakland Fire Department are responding.
