USPS prepares for holiday shipping rush
USPS mail carrier John Morones plays an important role in delivering the joy of Christmas to North Park.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The countdown to Christmas is on and the holiday shipping rush is here. With less than two weeks until Christmas Day, packages are piling up.
“This is what we do at this time of year. It’s our Super Bowl, World Series, it’s everything to the post office,” said John Morones, USPS mail carrier.
Morones plays an important role in delivering the joy of Christmas to North Park.
“When he pulls up I feel like my friend pulled up to come say hi to me for a few minutes," neighbor Munish Asnani said.
Morones covers a considerable amount of ground each day to ensure every piece of mail is delivered.
“It’s 30,000 steps. Usually about 9 ½ - 10 miles a day,” Morones said.
And he leaves each day with a truck full of pickups.
“Next week I think it’s going to be more,” Morones said.
But even with his busy schedule, he always finds time to make his customers smile.
“My kids ordered some stuff off of Amazon for me and they labeled it 'Daddy,' and ever since then, he’s been calling me 'Hey Daddy,'” Asnani said.
It’s not just the mail Morones delivers that brings the holiday spirit, but his mere presence in the community.
“I think he’s kind of the glue that holds together our neighborhood and it’s really nice having him here,” Asnani said.
