AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Another record daily high temperature was recorded at Camp Mabry Saturday. The high of 91° beat the previous record of 90° first set in 1950, tied in 1954, then tied again in 1987.
Today, the record high is 93° set in 1995. Our forecast today finds that the record should not be broken.
Tomorrow's record will be threatened. The record is 89° set in 1917. The forecast high for Monday is 89°.
Now, to the better part of the weather story. It's common knowledge that Austin-Camp Mabry has measured just .01" of rain (on the 18th) for the month. Much of the area has not seen a drop of rain since the 1st. The most rain? Horseshoe Bay picked up .06" on the 18th.
That's going to change. The ridge of upper-level high pressure will be departing in the next two days as a trough of low pressure develops in the western U.S. This will bring in moisture to the area from the Pacific Ocean.
Surface high pressure will continue to send in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. Low rain chances (20%) will be in the Tuesday-Wednesday forecast. Rain chances increase to 40% Thursday and Friday, then drop back to 30% next weekend. Subject to change.
Most rain totals, as of this morning, are forecast to range from .50" to 1.00".
Most of Travis County is under a severe drought per the latest United States Drought Monitor. Blanco County is the latest Central Texas to put a burn ban into effect. This leaves only Gillespie County without a burn ban.
Temperatures will still be above normal even with a cooling for the end of the week.
Tropics Check
The Atlantic Basin is quiet today. In the eastern Pacific, Tropical Storm Kristy continues to weaken.
