Two dry days before rain returns

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Meteorological winter (December through February) begins today with sun and fair-weather clouds along with most highs ranging from the mid/upper 60s to a few around 70°. The day will be dry.

Today's normal high is 67°

A mostly clear night leads to a bright start to tomorrow. Clouds will be increasing during the afternoon. Most lows in the morning will fall to the mid/upper 30s to low 40s.

Rain returns to the forecast, thankfully, on Tuesday. An area of low pressure will move along the coast during the day leading to increase cloudiness along with a low chance of a few showers. Any rain Tuesday won't amount to much. A slightly higher chance of rain is in your mid-week forecast.

In addition, a cold front will race through the region overnight Monday to Tuesday morning. High temperatures Tuesday will only make the low to mid 60s.

An upper-level low will move into the southwest United States to northwest Mexico Thursday to Saturday keeping rain chances from late-week into next weekend.

Rain chances are back Tuesday

Present forecasts are showing rain totals of .10" to .25" during the Tuesday to Sunday time frame, although there are other models showing much more. This means there likely will be changes in rain projections going out through the week.

For now, not much rain

The Climate Prediction Center continues with its Wetter-Than-Normal pattern for the second week of December. Higher confidence in this forecast is found in the southern part of Texas.

Texas will be playing in the SEC Championship Saturday afternoon at 3 at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. At this time, the weather will be dry in Atlanta. If you're going, plan for morning lows in the 30s an afternoon highs in the 50s during the weekend. No rain.
