Two dogs fall through ice in Aurora’s Utah Park
One dog was treated while the second ran away, officials say.
Two small dogs got very lucky after falling through the ice in Aurora’s Utah Park on Wednesday morning and managing to pull themselves out, fire and rescue officials said.
The pups were approximately 10 to 15 feet from shore when they fell through the ice, Aurora Fire Rescue officials said in a news release. A bystander called 911 and the agency’s rescue team responded, but the dogs managed to pull themselves out of the water before the crews could reach them.
One dog ran away immediately and could not be located, but emergency crews took the second dog into an ambulance to warm it up before turning it over to Animal Control to find its owner.
People should not attempt to rescue pets or humans that fall through the ice because they might also fall in, Aurora officials said. Instead, throw them a flotation device or rope and call 911.
