Donald Trump has unveiled Bitcoin-themed sneakers as part of his 2024 presidential campaign. This move signifies his evolving stance on cryptocurrencies, targeting crypto enthusiasts and supporters.

Two pairs of the limited edition Bitcoin-related sneakers by Donald Trump are now being sold on eBay at very high prices due to scalping. The ‘Bitcoin orange’ high-top sneakers became available for listing shortly after the pre-order was announced on July 31. Scalpers are asking for as much as $2,500 for a place in the pre-order queue even though the base price is lower.

Currently, there are 12 eBay listings for the Bitcoin sneakers, with live auctions starting at $700. Some have set the conditions as “or best offer,” and the prices range from $1,000 to $2,500. Some listed the sneakers for a hilarious $69,999.

The validity of these listings is in doubt, and it is unclear whether the sellers can deliver on their claims. Most listings state that the sneakers will be shipped between September and November, depending on the availability of the preorder batch. While most sellers have a high rating, some have complaints and have been accused of being scams.

Trump’s Official Website Sells Out Limited Edition High-Tops Quickly

Trump’s Bitcoin-themed sneakers were available for pre-order through the official Trump Sneakers website on July 31st. The orange high-tops were produced in a limited edition of 1000 pairs, and all of them were sold in just three hours. The website stated that five pairs would be randomly autographed by Trump, which means that there is a 1 in 200 chance of getting a signed pair.

Besides the orange high-tops, there are two more options, orange low-tops and black high-tops, that can still be found on the website. All of these variations are also available in a pack of 1,000 pairs and cost $299. Some of them will also have the inscription signed by Trump.

Trump Shifts Stance on Cryptocurrencies

The sale of crypto-themed merchandise continues Trump’s efforts to leverage the changes he has made regarding cryptocurrency. This comes after he had earlier on had a rather negative sentiment towards Bitcoin. In 2021, Trump called Bitcoin a ‘scam’ and criticized cryptocurrencies as technologically weak compared to traditional commodities such as the US Dollar.

However, Trump recently proposed using Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a major part of his re-election strategy.

This shift in thinking is consistent with Trump’s current stance, which suggests that the United States should store a strategic stockpile of Bitcoin. Speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville on July 25, Trump said if re-elected, the US government will not dispose of the $12 billion worth of Bitcoin confiscated. He has also slammed the current President Joe Biden’s crypto policies and has assured of overturning them if he gets into the next election.
