Troy man sentenced for false bomb threat against children
Mathius Ortiz, 31, was charged with first-degree placing a false bomb or hazardous substance and will serve one and a half to three years in state prison.
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- According to the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office, a Troy man was sentenced for a false bomb threat. Mathius Ortiz, 31, was charged with first-degree placing a false bomb or hazardous substance and will serve one and a half to three years in state prison.
The DA's Office says that Ortiz told children getting off of a school bus in Troy that he had a bomb on April 19. Ortiz also allegedly threw a metallic cylinder device with numbers and a clock timer before telling the children to run.
The children ran to a nearby home and called the police. Ortiz was identified as the suspect and arrested on April 21.
