TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A Travis County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested Wednesday morning after another deputy pulled him over, TCSO confirmed to KXAN.
William Haro, 58, faces a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. He was released on personal recognizance around 7:40 a.m. Wednesday. As of Thursday morning, no attorney was listed for Haro in Travis County court records.
According to an arrest affidavit, a TCSO sergeant pulled Haro over for allegedly driving 62 mph in a 50 mph zone. The sergeant told the TCSO affiant that he saw Haro's eyes were "glassy" and red, alleging these were "indicators of impairment."
"Upon post review of [the sergeant's] in car video system, the vehicle was observed failing to maintain the lane by entering the turn lane two separate times without indicating then re-entering his lane," the affidavit reads.
After exiting his vehicle, Haro was also allegedly seen swaying back and forth and speaking slowly, according to the affidavit.
"I asked where he was coming from and Haro admitted driving from the Plucker's Wing Bar, an establishment known to serve alcoholic beverages to patrons. I asked Haro whether he had consumed any alcohol, and he said no," the affidavit reads.
The deputy said they asked Haro to spit out his gum; after he allegedly did so, the "the odor of an alcoholic beverage grew," according to the affiant.
Haro allegedly consented to a field sobriety test, which the deputy claims revealed additional "clues."
"Because of the Haro's poor driving, my interview and observations, the fact that he was operating a motor vehicle in a public place, and his performance on the SFST, I formed an opinion that Haro was intoxicated and arrested him for DWI at [10:51 p.m.]," the affidavit reads.
