Today Is the Last Day to Register to Vote in the Nov. 5 General Election

With so much anxiety about this year’s presidential election, many voters may have procrastinated when it comes to registering.

Well, wait no more. Monday is the deadline to register — either by dropping off an application, going online or mailing it in.

For online registration, you have until midnight to submit an application in order to qualify for the Nov. 5 general election, the California Secretary of State’s office says. 

For those in San Diego County, potential voters can fill out a paper application and drop it off at the San Diego County Registrar’s Office, 5600 Overland Ave.

If applications are being sent by mail, they must have today’s postmark on them.

You may have to re-register if you’ve moved, wish to change your political party or want to either add or delete permanent vote-by-mail status.

Voter registration in the state is open to anyone who is a U.S. citizen and resident of California, is at least 18 years old and currently is not serving a term in a state or federal prison after conviction of a felony, according to the Secretary of State’s office.

Miss the deadline?

The Secretary of State’s office says Californians can still go to their local county registrar of voter’s office to conditionally register. That entitles them to cast provisional ballots, meaning their ballots will be counted only after the county elections office has certified their voter registration is eligible.
