'The nation spoke': Bosa speaks on Trump election victory days after flashing MAGA hat on SNF

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KRON) -- Former Pres. Donald Trump won Tuesday night's presidential election over Vice President Kamala Harris. One of the more prominent supporters of the former president, 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa, spoke Wednesday about his preferred candidate's victory.

"I don't think my position on speaking about it is going to change," Bosa told a group of reporters in front of his locker. "Clearly, the nation spoke. We got what we got."

Bosa, the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, made headlines following the 49ers' 30-24 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football. During his teammates' on-field postgame interview, Bosa crashed it to show off his white Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat as his public endorsement of Trump.

There were rumors that Bosa, 27, might have been fined by the NFL for displaying a political message, which violates Section 4, Article 8 of the 2024 NFL Rulebook. Bosa knew showing off the hat could have resulted in a fine. The 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year was asked if he knew a possible fine would come after the gesture.

"Yeah, yeah. It was well worth it," Bosa said.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end spoke to reporters in the team's locker room on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

"It was fun. It was a good time. Stayed up (following the election results)," Bosa added when asked if he followed the election coverage.

A Florida native, Bosa spoke about his Trump endorsement 10 days after making his support for the former president public. Trump notched a victory in Bosa's home state by more than 13 percentage points.

The star NFL player went viral for the act as a clip posted on X has garnered more than 12 million views. Bosa was asked about the hat during a postgame news conference but elected not to elaborate then. He said, “I’m not gonna talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time."

Section 4, Article 8 of the rulebook states, "The League will not grant permission for any club or player to wear, display, or otherwise convey messages, through helmet decals, arm bands, jersey patches, mouthpieces, or other items affixed to game uniforms or equipment, which relate to political activities or causes, other non-football events, causes or campaigns, or charitable causes or campaigns."
