A group of people were found near an overturned boat that had trapped possibly two people inside and injured one person offshore in San Diego, authorities said Saturday.

Fire personnel responded around 7:40 a.m. Saturday to reports of a suspected smuggling vessel that had capsized near the shoreline of Abbott Street and Saratoga Avenue in the neighborhood of Ocean Beach, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

A department lifeguard said one person was found unconscious and some were taken to hospitals. An exact number of victims was unclear.

Some victims were able to reach the shore and walk away, an official with the SDFRD said.

Fire officials planned to monitor the area for the day or possibly longer for any additional victims.
