SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) -- A suspect is in critical condition after being shot by a San Jose officer, the San Jose Police Department announced at 1:37 a.m. Monday. Police were responding Sunday to a family disturbance involving a weapon before the shooting, according to authorities.
Police responded at 7:46 p.m. to a residence in the area of South First and Sutter streets on the report of a domestic incident. During the investigation, SJPD said, the suspect threatened responding officers with a knife. One officer then shot the suspect.
After the shooting, the suspect barricaded inside the residence, police said. Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The current condition of the suspect is not known. No other injuries in the incident were immediately reported by police.
As police investigators remain at the scene, Sutter Street is closed from South First St. to South Almaden Avenue. Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area and take alternative routes.
