(KRON) -- A 57-year-old man is in custody after reporting to authorities that he fatally stabbed a female victim inside their Redwood City residence on Sunday, according to the Redwood City Police Department.
Police responded at 10:45 p.m. to the residence on the 900 block of Seventh Avenue and found the man, identified by authorities as Juan Antonio Garcia, outside, where officers detained him without incident. Inside the home, first responders located the unresponsive victim, who was suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police did not reveal the age or name of the female victim. Authorities called the slaying a "domestic violence incident" but did not disclose the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
A “large number of witnesses” were present inside the home, Redwood City PD said, and personnel from the Menlo Park Police Department and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in securing the scene.
The weapon used in the stabbing was recovered, police said, and Garcia is the sole suspect in the slaying. Garcia was arrested and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for homicide and other felony weapon charges.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Vickie Jaimez at (650)-780-7697.
