Art that transports

Students from Fremont schools were among the winners of state Assemblymember Alex Lee’s 2025 Youth Art Contest. Students residing in Lee’s 24th district created artworks on the theme “Riding Future Transit” for the contest.

Amanda Chen, a freshman at Mission San José High School, created an artwork depicting a futuristic flying vehicle to highlight future transportation’s inclusiveness and technological advancements.

Nayanica Mishra, an eighth-grader at Centerville Middle School, hopes more people will ride public transportation. Her artwork showcases a flying bus that turns trash and pollution into fuel.

Mia Zhang, a first-grader at Lila Bringhurst Elementary School, illustrated her dream future transit in the form of an air balloon bus.

A different story

The Santa Clara County Library District turned the page on the StoryWalk installation at Murphy Park in Milpitas on Saturday.

The district and the City of Milpitas initially installed the StoryWalk on Feb. 9. The installation featured 17 panels circling the children’s playground in Murphy Park, each depicting a page from “Someday, Maybe” by Diana Murray, one of this year’s Silicon Valley Reads companion books for kids.

That story has made way for “The Bugliest Bug” by Carol Diggory Shields. In this book for younger readers, all kinds of insects compete to see who is the “bugliest” bug of all.

Children and their families who turned out to the park on Saturday walked around the playground to read and follow the new story. After a story time with district librarians, families watched a performance of “Tommy’s Space Bug Adventure” by Puppet Arts Theatre.

The stories depicted in the installation are due to be changed several times a year. This is the library district’s fourth StoryWalk park project; the others are in Campbell, Morgan Hill and Saratoga.
