Following a mild and calm Tuesday, stronger Santa Ana winds are forecast to develop midweek, intensifying on Wednesday and Thursday, forecasters said.
Gusty north-to-northeast winds will impact the coastal mountain slopes, foothills and eastern valleys in San Diego County, creating critical fire weather conditions due to very low humidity and dry vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures on Tuesday are forecast to reach 67 to 72 near the coast, 72 to 75 inland, 74 to 79 in the western valleys, 66 to 74 in the mountains and 80 to 83 in the desert.
Temperatures throughout the week are expected to remain below average, with a gradual warming trend bringing highs closer to seasonal norms by the weekend.
Areas of frost may form in wind-sheltered valleys and the High Desert on Thursday and Friday mornings, NWS said.
While winds are anticipated to decrease on Friday, an offshore flow will continue across interior Southern California, maintaining dry conditions. Residents are advised to stay alert and prepared for potential fire risks during this period.
