STL rallies for relief: Diamond Diva Foundation, others lead tornado recovery efforts

ST. LOUIS - When disaster strikes, St. Louis shows up.

Walmart and the Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation joined hundreds of volunteers Monday, collecting and delivering emergency supplies to families who've  lost everything.

Devastation stretches for  blocks across north St. Louis, with homes shredded, trees snapped in half and families displaced after Friday’s storms and tornadoes.

Walmart and the Diamond Diva Empowerment Foundation joined forces with several  local organizations to help those in need.

“We are listening to the community. We are getting the list done, and we load up. Nonprofits are at the distribution stations. We are giving items or gift cards. We have water, food, everything that we are serving the neighborhoods that we operate in,” said La Tonya AnNoor.

The coalition of compassion is making a real difference in the community, demonstrating what's possible with one goal: helping neighbors in crisis

Action St. Louis is also making an impact; the grassroots organization set up tables at the O’Fallon YMCA to distribute emergency resources and connect families with housing support, food and mental health services.

“When we saw the tornado damage on the west and north sides of St. Louis, we knew we had to get involved,” said Kayla Reed. “We have tarps for  residents and they can come on-site to pick up those supplies.”

City leaders say it's going to be a long road ahead to try and recover. If you'd like to help, donations are still being accepted at the O’Fallon YMCA throughout the week.

Organizers say they need hygiene items and volunteers.
