St. Paul man killed in crash by driver fleeing from law enforcement identified

A man who was killed in a crash by a driver fleeing from law enforcement in Maplewood has been identified as a 61-year-old from St. Paul.

Apostle L was his full name, according to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Prosecutors charged Nicholas John Price, 37, of Roseville, on Monday with criminal vehicular homicide and other offenses.

On Friday night, L was driving a Toyota Corolla north on Edgerton Street and was going to take a left on Bellwood Avenue. Price was speeding south on Edgerton and slammed into the Corolla, which pushed it across the road and into the fence of Forest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery, according to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office.

Price’s ex-girlfriend had called 911 about 7:30 p.m. Friday and reported he threatened to set her on fire and assaulted her. She said she’d left the Roseville location where it happened.

Roseville officers saw Price’s Chevrolet Tahoe around 10:23 p.m. and tried to stop him, but he kept driving, according to the criminal complaint. They discontinued the pursuit, which the Ramsey County sheriff’s office had joined.

A deputy was about a half-mile behind Price when he crashed, the complaint said.

L had to be extricated from his car and died at the hospital.
