St. Louis County Police to receive $2.4M funding for safety initiatives

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - The St. Louis County Police Department is set to receive more than $2.4 million in grants to help fund critical public safety operations.

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page is set to sign five bills Tuesday morning that will allow the county to accept all of the funds. The money will help county police combat serious problems including child exploitation, domestic violence, drug trafficking, and dangerous driving.

More than $268,000 will help pay the salaries and benefits for three detectives in the county police department's domestic violence unit. Just over $298,000 from the Missouri Department of Public Safety will help support the salaries of eight detectives assigned to the multi-jurisdictional drug task force.

Another grant from the Missouri Department of Public Safety for more than $331,000 will help pay for three detectives in the special investigations unit focusing on crimes that exploit children.

Nearly $722,000 from the office of national drug control policy will help fund a task force and other groups that will focus on reducing illicit drugs on the streets, including fentanyl.

Finally, nearly $788,000 from the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division will focus on combating dangerous driving, including those who drive under the influence.

The signing ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Tuesday morning at the new Affton Southwest Precinct, also known as the Officer Blake Snyder building.
