It didn’t move. The experience was moving.

The SS United States was supposed to depart Philadelphia on Friday, with a preparatory move from one pier to another on Thursday. On Wednesday, the departure was killed because of weather at its final destination, the Gulf of Mexico. On Thursday, the move from one pier to another was delayed too.

But …

A tour cruise Thursday that was supposed to be a last view of “the U” turned into an opportunity for an ultra-up-close look at the ghost ship, with the added bonus of “U” passengers and others who have connected to the ship talking about their experiences. How a 29-year-old won a seat that Philly’s GOP never intended to flip

Last week, 29-year-old political newcomer Joe Picozzi unseated Democratic incumbent Jimmy Dillon in Northeast Philadelphia’s 5th Senatorial district, becoming the first Republican state Senatorial candidate to win a Philly seat in two decades.

He managed to do so without an endorsement from the Philadelphia GOP. Two Democratic party insiders told BP’s Celia Bernhardt that the reason for that was a quiet agreement between the Philly GOP and Democratic parties to refrain from challenging two of each other’s state-level incumbents in the Northeast. Continue reading…

MAYOR WATCH

10 a.m.: The mayor will join the Sanitation Department, the Office of Clean & Green Initiatives, WM Waste & Recycling partners and community members to celebrate America Recycles Day, as well as for the ribbon cutting of their facility that processes recycling at 5109 Bleigh Ave. Additionally, the Sanitation Department will unveil its new recycling campaign that looks to gain more buy-in from the public on recycling programs and initiatives in the city.
