Southwest Airlines to launch nonstop service from Austin to San Francisco in 2025
Southwest Airlines will launch new nonstop service between Austin and San Francisco in August 2025.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Southwest Airlines will launch new nonstop service between Austin and San Francisco in August 2025.
The airline will operate daily nonstop flights beginning Aug. 5. As of now, customers can book flights up to Oct. 1. It's unclear at this time if the route will be extended to year-round service or if the seasonal route will end after the summer.
The route announcement comes less than three months after rival Delta Air Lines said it would start flying nonstop between Austin and San Francisco in June. Alaska Airlines and United Airlines also both operate flights on the route.
Southwest previously operated flights on the AUS-SFO route until the end of 2019.
The San Francisco route will be Southwest's third new nonstop from Austin in 2025. The airline will begin year-round service to Milwaukee and seasonal service to Reno on March 6.
Delta, Frontier Airlines and WestJet will also launch new routes next year. In total, 15 new nonstop routes have been announced by airlines so far for 2025.
