At least a portion of a Rancho Palos Verdes home was destroyed when a car came careening into the residence through roof, video footage of the aftermath shows.
Crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to 28036 Santona Drive on reports that a vehicle went down a hill and into a home just before 6 p.m., leaving the driver trapped inside the vehicle and in need of rescue.
Footage of the aftermath shows a massive hole in the roof of the home caused by the crash, with debris, including the car itself, filling the room of the home where it landed.
Joan Killeen, who lives in the home, told KTLA that when the collision occurred, it sounded as if an explosion had gone off.
“I looked in the family room and saw piles and piles of wood,” she explained. The windows had shattered. It sounded like the whole house had exploded.”
Details are limited and it’s unclear what may have led to the accident.
Crews were able to free the trapped elderly female motorist, who was rushed to the hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.
“This is just stuff, and you really just need to know that you’re okay,” Killeen added. "I hope the lady that was in the car was okay. That’s really what matters.”
