Sockers Open Season With 5-4 Defeat at Tacoma, Prep for Home Opener Saturday
The Sockers first home game this year, against Utica City FC, represents a bigger first – the team will make its debut in its new home, Frontwave Arena.
The San Diego Sockers began their season with a close loss to the Tacoma Stars, as they fell behind early and were not able to finish the comeback in a 5-4 defeat.
The Stars took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, and while the Sockers kept it close, Tacoma was able to keep the Sockers at a comfortable distance.
Even in a fourth period that saw five different goals, the Stars were able to hold off the Sockers.

The Sockers will look to regain their championship pedigree, as their title streak ended last season with a second-round playoff loss to the Chihuahua Savage.
It will be a special season at Frontwave regardless of how the Sockers fare – the venue will host the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Major Arena Soccer League playoffs, from April 4-6.
