DENVER (KDVR) — Crews made quick work of a wildland fire on Flagstaff Mountain in Boulder on Wednesday night after it reportedly sparked at about 9 p.m.
The fire was reported in the 1700 block of Flagstaff Road and prompted a quick response by Mountain View Fire Rescue, Boulder Fire Rescue, Boulder police and the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. At about 10:20 p.m., officials said the fire was extinguished.
Crews were in "mop-up" mode to ensure the area was safe, according to the sheriff's office.
However, the roadway was set to remain closed between the 500 block of Baseline Road and the 2000 block of Flagstaff Road for the first responders. Boulder County Sheriff's Office said the closure was expected to last about two hours, and asked motorists to avoid the area.
Highway 72, also known as Coal Creek Canyon Road, to Gross Dam Road is an alternative route to the top of Flagstaff Mountain, the sheriff's office reported.
As of Wednesday night, no agencies had reported any injuries or threatened structures. There was also no information on what may have started the fire.
Boulder Fire Rescue had been conducting a prescribed burn near the intersection of South Cherryvale Road and South Boulder Road on Wednesday, but the fire operations were completed earlier in the day and the location is far from Flagstaff Mountain.
