SLMPD: Man shot after taking out trash and confronting would-be robber

ST. LOUIS - A man was shot after taking out trash and confronting a would-be robber Friday afternoon in north St. Louis, police say.

The shooting occurred around 3 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Wall Street in St. Louis' Baden neighborhood, according to a crime summary report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators say the victim was in an alley and taking out trash when a masked suspect armed with a handgun approached him and announced a robbery.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, told police that he drew his own handgun in self-defense, then a struggle ensued. At some point, at least one shot was fired and struck the victim in the foot.

Investigators say the victim went back to his home, and a relative rushed him to the hospital shortly after the shooting.

St. Louis police have not yet disclosed any suspect information or possible motives in the shooting.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact SLMPD at 314-444-0001 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
