SJSU associate volleyball coach "not with the team at this time"

(KRON) -- The associate head coach of the San Jose State University women’s volleyball team, Melissa Batie-Smoose, is currently absent from the team, with the university choosing not to elaborate on the situation.

In a statement to KRON4, SJSU clarified, "To be clear, we are not confirming a suspension. The associate head coach is not with the team at this time, and we will not provide further information on this matter."

This development follows a lawsuit filed by SJSU player Brooke Slusser, who claims that the spiking ability of an alleged transgender teammate presents a safety risk. Consequently, several universities, including the University of Nevada, Boise State, Utah State, Wyoming, and Southern Utah, have canceled upcoming matches with SJSU.

In an exclusive interview with the conservative sports outlet OutKick, Batie-Smoose had asserted that the school is attempting to silence her, emphasizing her belief that “only women should be in women's sports.”

Stay with KRON4 for updates on this developing story.
