Shonly Wallace becomes first female scout in NLL history with FireWolves

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) -- The Albany FireWolves and former UAlbany women's lacrosse player Shonly Wallace have made history. The FireWolves have hired Wallace as a college scout, making her the first ever female NLL scout.

After playing at Stony Brook and Oregon, Wallace finished her collegiate playing career with the Great Danes in 2023, before serving as an assistant coach with the team this past season. She's now an assistant with Central Michigan.

Wallace, who played box lacrosse growing up in Canada, will scout college talent for the FireWolves. It means a lot to her to achieve a dream, but also blaze a trail for others. "It's incredible," said Wallace. "It's something I always believed and knew I wanted to do, so for it to actually be happening, I think is just such a testament to the growth of women's sports and especially the growth of women's lacrosse. For me to have a role in this way is something that I'm really passionate about and wanting to have a career in lacrosse, not many people can say they get to do that. So to add this as one of the things that I get to do is really amazing and just exciting for women in lacrosse in general and then those aspiring to be a part of sports in a bigger way and just seeing that it can be possible now, I hope to just inspire young girls to keep playing and be involved and watch lacrosse."
