Shiba Inu’s Shibarium: A Web3 Solution to Prevent Future IT Failures Like CrowdStrike’s
  • With CrowdStrike’s failed update grinding the world to a halt, Shytoshi Kusama says Shiba Inu’s Shibarium can be the solution.
  • Shytoshi has been leading a global campaign dubbed “Treat Yourself” which pushes for Web3 solutions built on Shibarium and other networks to replace existing Web2 platforms.

The world was thrown into a panic last week when Windows computers were hit by the largest IT outage in history. The issue was caused by a faulty update issued by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity software provider, and it affected airlines, broadcasters, airports, transport systems, emergency services, and millions of businesses, some of whom haven’t resumed. According to the creator of Shiba Inu, blockchain technology could help avert similar disasters in the future.

CrowdStrike launched in 2011 but has grown exponentially as the leading threat detection and prevention solution. Today, it counts over 29,000 customers globally, including half of the Fortune 1,000 firms. Unfortunately, in an era where cybercriminals are more lethal than ever, this makes it a prime target for hackers who could then use it to infiltrate some of the world’s most critical infrastructure.

This time, the shutdown wasn’t malicious, thankfully. However, its centralized nature shows just how vulnerable global IT systems are. Shytoshi Kusama believes it’s time to turn to Shibariun and other Web3 alternatives to prevent a recurrence.

Kusama stated:

As the world limps towards the weekend crippled by one simple update, it becomes glaringly obvious that a new worldwide operating system is needed. One that isn’t reliant on a central authority, but one that is decentralized and powered by Web3 technologies that at its core, are designed for days just like this.

Kusama joined a long line of global leaders and innovators who pointed out just how vulnerable the world’s critical infrastructure is to attacks. Elon Musk was quick to react, taking shots at CrowdStrike and adding, “We just deleted CrowdStrike from all our systems, so no rollouts at all.”

In the crypto world, many noted that while Windows was out, blockchain networks remained unaffected.

Jameson Lopp, a longtime Bitcoin developer, noted that the outage justified the BTC team’s approach that avoids auto-updates as they lead to vulnerabilities.

Pro-crypto US Senator Cynthia Lummis also jumped in:

Do you know what form of currency hasn’t been affected by widespread cyber outages? Bitcoin.

Treat Yourself with Shibarium

Kusama went on to state that in his efforts to boost uptake of Web3, he has been pushing the “Treat Yourself” campaign and that it was gaining great traction globally. As we reported, Kusama has been on a tour across Japan, India, Thailand and Canada.

While he’s using the tour to promote Shibarium, Kusama noted that it’s bigger than one network or token. It’s about ensuring that the world moves to Web3 solutions. He stated:

This tour isn’t about a token, it’s about moving from an outdated Web2 mentality (and software) to treating your customers, stakeholders and yourselves to a higher level of engagement, security and innovation.

He concluded that he was dedicated to leading “the conversation of exactly why Web3 is the future and the Shiba Inu ecosystem is the operating system of that future.”

Meanwhile, Shibarium continues to surge, recording a massive 450% surge in new user accounts last week, as we reported. Active accounts went up 23%.

SHIB trades at $0.00001755, losing 2% in the past day despite a 20% rise in trading volume.
