SFPD makes arrest nearly 2 years after missing man found slain

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- An 18-year-old man went missing from San Francisco in January 2023 before being found slain weeks later in the Bayview neighborhood. On Tuesday, the San Francisco Police Department announced that an arrest had been made in the killing.

Authorities issued a missing person statement on Jan. 12, 2023, after Maxwell George Maltzman was last seen on Jan. 6 at his residence on the 900 block of Sutter Street. On Jan. 23, Maltzman’s body was discovered in the Bayview District.

After an investigation between SFPD’s Homicide Detail and the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Maltzman’s death was ruled a homicide.

Evidence that was collected led police to the identity of the homicide suspect, police said. An arrest warrant and a search warrant were obtained for the suspect and the suspect’s residence based on probable cause.

On Nov. 29 at 8:22 a.m., the SFPD Tactical Unit, along with the Homicide Detail, located and arrested the 19-year-old suspect on Ahern Way. The search warrant was executed at the suspect’s home and evidence was seized, police said.

The suspect, who is a San Francisco resident but was not named, was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center on charges of homicide and conspiracy.
