SF mayoral candidate's campaign office vandalized

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Less than two weeks away from Election Day, San Francisco mayoral candidate Ahsha Safai's campaign office was vandalized, Safai and the San Francisco Police Department confirmed.

The office on the 2600 block of Mission Street was broken into at about 10:54 a.m. Thursday, police said. An image posted by Safai to X shows the glass door to the office shattered.

Safai claimed in an interview with KRON4 that the man who vandalized the building had been spotted loitering outside the office multiple times. On Thursday, he tried intimidating Safai's staff from the atrium.

When a woman tried to lock the door to the office, the man tossed a large rock through the glass. Staffers immediately called police, and the suspect ran off.

Safai says it's unclear whether the man was angry at the campaign, but he said it is one more example of the break-ins and crime that plague businesses across San Francisco.

Safai's platform advocates for an increase in police patrol and more cameras to combat crime.

He says the vandalism will not deter his efforts to be elected as the next mayor. The office will reopen on Friday and take more precautions. SFPD is investigating the incident.
