SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco City Hall will be lit blue, pink and white on Wednesday night in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance, according to the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
SFDPH said the building will be lit in solidarity with the trans community in San Francisco and "everywhere."
"We stand against transphobia and honor those impacted by the continued violence towards transgender people," the department said in a post on social media.
On Wednesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring Nov. 20, 2024 as "Transgender Day of Remembrance."
"California joins people across the country and around the world honoring Transgender Day of Remembrance today," Newsom said. "As we commemorate the lives tragically lost to bigotry and violence against trans people, we reaffirm our commitment to fighting for the safety, equality and inclusion of our LGBTQ community," Newsom's statement read in part.
Pink, blue and white are the colors of the transgender flag.
