Several homes in Byers evacuated after fire, explosion

DENVER (KDVR) -- Several houses in Byers are being evacuated after a structure with flammable material caught fire and exploded fuel tanks.

The Arapahoe Sheriff's Office posted on X around 11:30 a.m. that deputies were on the scene in the 600 block of East Pleasant Avenue in Byers. This is about a mile away from Byers High School.

The sheriff's office said the building appeared to be a barn or shop that contained flammable large trucks and fuel tanks that exploded. Just before noon, the sheriff's office said the fire was under control, but wasn't extinguished.

Deputies are working on evacuating around 25 to 30 homes in the area.

The sheriff's office said a Code Red emergency alert has been activated and there are multiple fire agencies on the scene.

At this time, no injuries have been reported and it's unclear what started the fire.

FOX31 is heading to the scene to gather more information.

This is a developing story. This post will be updated when more information becomes available.
