DISCOVERY BAY, Calif. (KRON) -- A minor is facing vehicular manslaughter charges after driving a car through a security shack in front of a Discovery Bay gated community on Friday night. The crash killed one guard and critically injured another.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash just minutes before midnight. The preliminary investigation showed a juvenile was traveling eastbound on Balfour Road near Bixler Road before leaving the roadway, driving over a raised divider island and colliding with the security building at The Lakes that was occupied by two guards.
One guard sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second guard was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries, CHP said.
The minor who was driving the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was later arrested for vehicular manslaughter. According to authorities, alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CHP Contra Costa Area office at (925)-646-4980
