San Diego State released plans Thursday for a golf performance center at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, funded in part with an anonymous pledge of $1.5 million.
The center will feature indoor hitting bays, team rooms, locker rooms for both men’s and women’s teams, a hospitality station and accommodations. The SDSU campus also will be home to two golf simulators.
With the pledge, the project now has received $2.1 million in commitments to date. SDSU athletics hopes to raise $3 million for the project.
“We are excited for this partnership with The Farms Golf Club,” SDSU men’s golf coach Ryan Donovan said. “This is an opportunity to continue to build a national championship team as we develop and graduate our student athletes.”

The men’s team has won three consecutive Mountain West championships and six overall in the 25-year history of the league. SDSU is joining the Pac-12 Conference for most sports beginning in the 2026-27 season.
“This new practice facility will be a game-changer for our program, allowing us to compete at the highest level in an ever-evolving landscape,” women’s golf coach Lauren Dobashi said. “Having a dedicated home not only enhances the training experience for our current student-athletes but also strengthens our recruiting efforts.”
The women’s golf team has two Mountain West championships.
“This dedicated facility is what we needed to provide our teams the opportunity to compete for national titles,” said John David Wicker, San Diego State’s athletic director.
An exclusive, year-round, private club, The Farms boasts a championship-level course with a design that attracts top tournaments and golf legends.
The club has played host to prestigious events like the Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship, USGA Amateur qualifiers, SCGA championships, NCAA regionals and collegiate invitationals.
The course has been praised by Golf Digest and members include prominent professional golfers such as San Diego natives Xander Schauffele and Phil Mickelson, along with Annika Sorenstam, John Schroeder and Liselotte Neumann.
“The timing to officially partner with the SDSU men’s and women’s golf teams is timed perfectly with our golf course and practice facility upgrades that are scheduled to commence in 2025,” golf club president Andy Jones said.
