Schenectady man arrested for 100 grams of methamphetamine during traffic stop
A Schenectady man was arrested during a traffic stop on East Street on January 27. Stephfon Algarin, 30, faces multiple drug charges.
RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Schenectady man was arrested during a traffic stop on East Street on January 27. Stephfon Algarin, 30, faces multiple drug charges.
On January 27, around 4:30 p.m., troopers stopped a vehicle on East Street in Rensselaer and identified Algarin as the passenger. Upon an investigation, with the assistance of K9 "J," Algarin was found to have more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, and approximately $50,000 on him.
Algarin was arrested and transported to barracks in Latham for processing. He was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the second degree, a class A-II felony
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor
Following his arrest, Algarin was arraigned at the Rensselaer City Court. He was then remanded to the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility without bail.
