Schenectady man arrested following Thruway pursuit
A Schenectady man was arrested Monday following a high-speed chase on the Thruway. Nashaan Howard, 40, faces multiple drug charges and traffic violations.
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Schenectady man was arrested Monday following a high-speed chase on the Thruway. Nashaan Howard, 40, faces multiple drug charges and traffic violations.
Around 7:30 p.m. Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle, being driven by Howard, on the Thruway in Bethlehem, when he failed to comply with the stop. Howard continued driving, initiating a high-speed chase.
The chase continued until Troopers deployed a tire deflation device, stopping the car on the Thruway in Albany. During the pursuit, Howard was allegedly observed throwing things from the vehicle.
Upon further investigation, Troopers determined that Howard allegedly discarded more than two kilograms of packaged cocaine from the car. He was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a controlled substance in the first degree
- Criminal Possession of a controlled substance in the third degree
- Reckless Endangerment in the first degree
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Unlawful Fleeing a police officer in the third degree
- Numerous Vehicle and traffic violations
After his arrest, Howard was transported to the Albany County Correctional Facility to await arraignment. On Wednesday, he was arraigned and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility, where he is being held without bail.
