Saratoga County releases 2025 tentative budget

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Saratoga County tentative 2025 budget was released on Wednesday. It proposes $432 million and stays within the state's 2% property tax cap while reducing property taxes by 5%.

Saratoga County property tax rate in the tentative budget is $1.87 per $1,000 of assessed value. The rate equates to a 15% reduction of property taxes in the county in the past four years and is one of the lowest rates among Upstate counties.

Unfunded state and federal mandates account for $80 million of the budget, while estimated sales tax revenue is projected to be a conservative $170 million. Other investment areas for the county include public safety, health and human services initiatives, funding and staffing for social services programs, and more.

Through next year's budget, the county wants to continue addressing environmental health issues, election security, and prioritizing economic development. Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Phil Barrett said the budget reflects making the area desirable to work, live, and play.

"We're proud to once again reduce the property tax rate for property owners, continuing Saratoga County's standing as having the lowest rate amongst all 55 upstate counties, while also ensuring residents have access to quality services and programs," Barrett said. "The 2025 tentative budget demonstrates that our conservative fiscal values and smart investments in public safety, our community, and our workforce continue to make Saratoga County one of the most desirable places to live, work, and visit."
