Santa Rosa man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in alleged gang shooting

(BCN) -- A suspected gang member was arrested in Santa Rosa on Wednesday after an investigation into an August shooting, according to police.

On Aug. 13 at about 11:30 p.m., officers were sent to a local hospital regarding a man who was brought into the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his face.

Detectives determined that the man had been driving in the 900 block of Sunset Avenue when someone fired at least two rounds through his partially open driver's side window, with one round striking his face. The victim drove a short distance and pulled over, while his passenger got into the driver's seat and drove him to the hospital.

The preliminary investigation determined this was a gang-motivated shooting, police said. Detectives eventually identified an 18-year-old suspect out of Santa Rosa.

A warrant for the suspect's arrest was issued as well as a search warrant for two residences associated with him.

On Wednesday at approximately 10:30 am, detectives located the suspect and began surveilling him. He was subsequently contacted at his place of work in Windsor and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, carrying a firearm with intent to commit a felony, carrying a concealed weapon and gang enhancements.

The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun that was concealed inside a satchel at the time of his arrest. Further testing is needed to determine if the firearm seized during the arrest is the same firearm used in the alleged attempted murder, according to police.

A search of residences on Millicent Way and in the 1500 block of Herbert Street was carried out and ammunition located in the Herbert Street residence was seized. Further testing is needed to determine if the ammunition is related to the attempted murder.
