Santa Clara student hit by car, killed while biking to class

(KRON) -- A student at Santa Clara University was killed when he was hit by a car last week, the City of Santa Clara said.

A GoFundMe identified the victim as 18-year-old Kephas Pope. He was riding his bicycle to class when he was struck and killed by a car, according to the page created by his father.

The crash happened just before noon on Nov. 21 on El Camino Real and Accolti Way. That intersection is right in front of the university's athletic complex.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

The city said there were no other vehicles reportedly involved, but police are still investigating the crash. Witnesses are asked to call (408) 615-4764.
