San Ramon assistant principal assaulted by high school students during homecoming dance

(KRON) -- A "troubling" occurrence took place during California High School's homecoming dance in San Ramon last Saturday, according to a letter from San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) Superintendent CJ Cammack letter sent to families.

SRVUSD officials said an assistant principal at Cal High was physically assaulted by two high school students from another school in the district.

The assistant principal was approached by two students in the parking lot on campus on Oct. 19. Officials said one of the students then physically assaulted the principal, and the second student fled the parking lot together with the first student.

After the San Ramon Police Department responded to the assault, a minor was taken into custody later that night. Staff, families and students have already been informed of the incident.

"SRVUSD will also conduct a comprehensive investigation and will pursue all disciplinary consequences to the fullest extent permissible by law," Cammack's letter said. "We want to be clear that, in no uncertain terms, we take the safety of our students and our staff as a top priority. Unsafe conduct will not be tolerated at Cal High or at any school in SRVUSD."

The letter did not disclose the circumstances of what led up to the assault. SRVUSD did not say what the condition of the assistant principal was after they were assaulted.

"We want to be clear that, in no uncertain terms, this conduct will not be tolerated at Cal High or at any school in SRVUSD," the letter continued. "We care deeply about the safety and well-being of our students, as well as all of our staff."

SRPD will continue to investigate this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department at 925-973-2700.
