San Francisco DUI driver hit and dragged pole-mounted street sign for 1-mile: police

(KRON) -- The Pacifica Police Department said a San Francisco woman suspected of driving under the influence was arrested Saturday after officers responded to a car stopped in the street with a pole-mounted street sign lodged underneath.

When officers arrived in the area of Alisal Court and Timberhill Drive, police said they located the suspected vehicle parked and occupied.

Investigators said the driver, identified as Emily Nishimura, 25, of San Francisco, was under the influence of alcohol when she drove over a raised center median in the area of Hickey Boulevard and SR-35. That's when police said Nishimura knocked over the sign which became stuck under her vehicle then dragged for one mile. While the sign was being dragged, police said it collided with and damaged a parked car.

Police confirmed Nishimura was arrested and faces charges including, California Vehicle Code (CVC) - DUI alcohol, driving with BAC .08 percent or higher, and CVC - hit and run.

The Pacifica Police Department is asking anyone with information on the collision to call (650) 738-7314 or the Silent Witness Tip Line at (650) 359-4444.
