SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego Police Officer and Retired U.S. Marine Larry Turner is trying to unseat San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria as Gloria is vying for his second term as mayor.

On Monday afternoon, both Gloria and Turner campaigned one last time.

On Tuesday afternoon, Gloria thanked the Democratic campaign workers at the Democratic headquarters before he planned to talk with voters one last time.

"Let's bring home a win for San Diego and America," Gloria said to the Democratic campaign workers ahead of canvassing Monday.

On Monday afternoon, Turner was campaigning with a group of supporters at the intersection of Genesee and Balboa Avenues in Clairemont.

We asked Turner and Gloria their last message to voters:

"We are done with professional politicians and with the way things are going. If people like the way San Diego has been going these last four years, I am not the right person. I am the one who's going to turn things around, going to get things back to common sense, the regular people running the show. I am not the professional politician, I am this guy who never wanted this job. I'm just the one who couldn't stand this, seeing my kids growing up here under these conditions," Turner responded.

"I've had the honor of leading my hometown during the most difficult number of years that we've seen in about a century -- a pandemic, a recession, political, social and racial unrest. This has been a challenging time, and despite all those challenges we have made some significant progress in keeping keeping crime low, reducing it 11 percent in my time as mayor; paving our roads, 1650 miles, 25 percent, one in four roads in our city has been repaved under my leadership; building more housing, we have a record number of new housing started just helping to level off rents and make housing more affordable; and probably most important of all, to get more people off of our streets," Gloria said, adding that his work is not finished.
