San Diego FC debuts inaugural jersey design for players
The first-ever jersey design for players of San Diego FC has been unveiled — and fans can already buy it.
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The first-ever jersey design for players of San Diego FC has been unveiled — and fans can already buy it.
The jersey, which was created in partnership with adidas, emulates the theme of the club's crest, "The Flow," featuring lines of gradient colors running up the side of the kit, chrome stripes on the shoulders and the club's primary color of azul as its base.
A number of tags are also placed on the kit, including the logo for DirectTV — the team's first jersey partner — across the jersey's chest, a "Chrome & Azul" marking in the lower left corner and script on the back of the neck reading "State of Flow."
“San Diego FC’s inaugural jersey is a tribute to our community’s depth, richness and diversity," Sebastián Morúa, the club's senior vice president of brand, marketing and community, said in a release. “With an Azul base and Chrome details, the colors of San Diego’s diverse culture shine through the sides and back."
"This clean and elegant jersey, with a twist, captures the essence of every corner of San Diego, woven into one," he continued.
When San Diego FC players take to the pitch for the season, just like each of the other 29 Major League Soccer teams, they will also be sporting a patch on their left shoulder for Apple TV, the league's broadcast partner and home of "MLS Season Pass."
Each team's patch will be specially designed for their club using their crest, color palette and other aspects of their visual identity, a spokesperson for San Diego FC said.
The inaugural jersey is already available for fans to purchase through the team store, Eighteen Threads. A limited number of jerseys bought through the shop's brick-and-mortar location in Mission Valley Mall will come with an "Inaugural Season" Jock Tag and commemorative box.
“Few moments are as special as the unveiling of a football club’s inaugural kit,” club CEO Tom Penn said. “This kit embodies the spirit of our Club and the pride of our city, and we can’t wait to see our players and fans in Chrome & Azul as we kick off our first-ever MLS season in February.”
San Diego FC kicks off their first-ever season with a match against the Los Angeles Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park at the end of February. Their first home match at Snapdragon Stadium is scheduled for Mar. 1 against St. Louis CITY SC.
