San Diegans head to polls ahead of Election Day. What to know if you still need to vote

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- With two more days to get in their votes, San Diego County voters continued to make their way to voting centers and the Registrar's Office on Sunday to cast their votes ahead of Election Day.

"With all the mail-in ballots these days, I like to drop it off at the Registrar here. It fees a little more safe, more secure," said Scott Nielsen.

Others like to wait until Election Day to cast their vote.

"I wait until Tuesday after work. I get off around 4 p.m. and head to my precinct," said Jose Nunez.

Voters that haven't yet registered to vote are able to do so in person quickly and easily as well.

"I still needed to complete my registration as I recently moved back to San Diego from out of state. They let me do that right here. I was prompted with a new registration and I could vote right here today. It was easy," said James Mattson.

There are about two million registered voters in San Diego County. So far as of Sunday evening, the Registrar's office says more than 800,000 mail ballots have been received, and that 40,000 people have voted in person at voting centers since they opened October 26.

"Of all the elections I've voted in, this was the one I was like I have to, have to, have to. And it’s the only one I wasn’t sure if I was registered... It was nice to be able to do it at the end of the day on a Sunday, and not have to beat the lines on Tuesday mid-day while I'm at work," said Mattson.

There are 235 vote centers spread out throughout the county, along with six supercenters.
